The Sport Development Program is an introduction into professional-level training for Indigenous youth in Years 9-12. This program is designed for young athletes who are actively engaged in any school-based or club-level competitive sport.
Delivered in the regions of Mildura, Shepperton/Echuca, Albury/Wodonga and Melbourne throughout Term 1, the program includes physical exercise, sports leadership, and high performance social and emotional wellbeing strategies.
In Term 4, the athletes experience a pre-season program delivered at the Richmond Football Club that exposes them to a typical week in the life of a professional athlete.
Athletes stay at Club approved accommodation within the Richmond precinct and all meals and equipment are provided by the KGI. The program is supervised by Korin Gamadji Institute Indigenous staff and activities are supervised by elite-level trainiers and educators from the Richmond Institute of Sports Leadership.
